Yes, I'm officially 16 now. And I don't feel any older. Well, birthday without family is really a little bit... weird. My hostfamily cared perfectly for me and my friends were so sweet and enthusiastic. They invited me on cheesecake and even made the waiters in the restaurant sing for me. But still, it's not the same...
Besides that, my days are just packed. There a lot to do before Christmas. But I can cross out at least one point every day. And it's fun. I'm learning a lot about American traditions. Have you ever heard about the "Elf on the shelf"? I haven't, before my dancing teacher told me about it. It's a neat thing for little children: A stuffed little doll that looks like a Christmas elf. The elf has different names in each family. My teacher's daughter called him simply "Elfy Shelfy". And Elfy Shelfy is one of Santa's private spys who come to a house and watch the kids from a bookshelf. Each night, Elfy is flying home to the northpole and tells santa, whether the children behaved well and deserve their presents. And when he comes back, he watches from somewhere else. So each night, my teacher is getting up and changes Elfy's place. And she says, he helpes her a lot to take care of the kid's behaviour. I think that's really clever. Another tradition is Secret Santa. I guess you already heard about that, it's becoming more and more popular in Germany. For the ones who don't know: It's a gift exchange where everyone draws the name of a person in the Secret Santa group and buys a present for her. Of course, without telling the person who her Santa is. On the exchange day, you either give the gift personally or you just put all presents on a pile with name signs on them. This way, the Santa really stays secret. It's really fun and so popular, that I'm already part of four different Secret Santa groups. By the way, our "Adventskalender" are not common in the United States. But my mum sent one for my little sister and she just loves it. Well, so I'm really in a Christmas mood now and I can't wait until the break beginns. But before that, there's still a lot to do...
